Parents are the main educators in terms of morality, religion, and academics which retelling story activity is a part of them. Retelling story is one of language skills that cannot be apart from the other skills so that the position of retelling story is important in education. Retelling story method becomes motivation for children in reading activity because each child can develop the motivation themselves. This research aims to describe retelling story method implemented by parents as reading motivation for children. This is qualitative research. The subject of the research is 10 parents of children who study in Elementary School and they have implemented the retelling story. The data collection is in the form of structured interview. The findings show that retelling story method done by parents become extrinsic motivation that can support children’s intrinsic motivation. It can be seen from the spirit when the retelling story activity is begun, the earlier curiosity in the book, the earlier ability in spelling alphabets, words, and sentences, and also the duration in reading book in a week.
